One of the things on their North Carolina bucket list was to go the Outer Banks. So we rented a town house in Kitty Hawk for a few days, packed up our cars and headed out. We really wanted to take them to Hatteras but alas that stupid Hurricane Irene ruined out plans once again. Hwy 12 suffered a lot of damage and was washed out in 3 places. Needless to say, we could not get on the island. We still had a ton of fun. There was so much to do that we actually did not get to spend much time just sitting at the beach. We did do a lot of neat stuff though so I hope the Grover's enjoyed their first Outer Banks trip. Hopefully it will not be the last.
We decided to do a dolphin watch. This was one of my favorite things we did on the trip. We started seeing dolphins about 10 min in which is actually not normal. They were very active and playing the entire time so we defiantly got our moneys worth .
"The money shot" This was pure luck. Turns out if you shoot camera enough times you can catch a dolphin mid jump.
The kids helping collect data
These were the only lighthouses on the Outer Banks I have not seen yet. I guess now they are all checked off my list.
Currituck Lighthouse in Corolla
Bodie Island Lighthouse
There was one day that was suppose to rain so we planned a trip to the aquarium on Roanoke Island. I think it actually turned out to be a nice day but I don't think there were any regrets about going to the aquarium.
Playing at the beach
We are crabbing off the dock. We were catching them as fast as we could throw our bait out but we didn't end up staying to long (10 min i think) because the mosquitoes were CRAZY so we gathered up the kids and ran as fast as we could to the car to keep from getting any more of their nasty bites
