Hatteras Beach Trip 2012 Part 5...Fishing

Our anniversary happen to fall on our beach week. We spent the day inshore fishing. We charted a boat with Paul's dad, his uncle Stuart and Stuart's wife Chigako and went out along the coast of Hatteras Island.  I enjoy fishing from time to time at least for the first 30 minutes or so but this was the most fun I have ever had fishing.  I enjoyed it the whole time but Paul probably wouldn't say the same thing. The poor guy was a little seasick. Which is funny because the night before we went he was joking around and telling everyone that we weren't going to turn around for any one that got sick. He was more sea sick then any of us. Needless to say he was very happy when the trip was over.

Paul spent a majority of the time just like this

He got up just in time to catch the Cobia but he still felt terrible

He kissed the ground as soon as we got off the boat

We caught a whole bunch of Spanish Mackerel and a few Blue Fish

Hatteras Beach trip 2012 Part 2...Crabbing at Lake Matumaskeet

During our week at the beach we spent a day crabbing at Lake Matumaskeet. It was a little bit of a drive; in fact we were probably half way home by the time we drove all the way there. We have been crabbing there before but it was fun to be able to take Heather and her friend Angie. The crabs here are HUGE but I think the fire ants and mosquitoes were almost as big. Ok, not really but they defiantly made sure we knew they were there.

We saw not only one but three bears on our way back to the beach house. Yikes!

Hatteras Beach Trip 2012 part 1

Getting ready for a picture overload. I have so many pictures to post from our beach trip in May so I am going to do it in several posts.

Almost every year that we have lived here in NC we have taken a trip to the Outerbanks. We love it there. It is not super commercialized so if you are looking for a trip with a lot of different things to do to entertain the kids it might not be the best place but that is what we love about it. It is so pretty and peaceful out there.

This years trip was extra special. Early this year, Paul's grandma (Emaw) was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. We knew that if she was able to make it on this trip it might be the last one. She passed away in August. We were so grateful for that she was able to come with us and for the special time we had to spend with her. She was such a special lady and there is so much about her that we will miss. It is at these times that I am so thankful for the Atonement and the plan the our Heavenly Father has set up for us so that we can see her again and be a family forever.

This is the house we have stayed in for the last 3 years.

 We always have games...

 and Granddaddy's kereoakee

We celebrated Macie and Paul's birthdays

North Carolina Zoo

We always love spending the day at the zoo. To make the day even better I was able to see my good friend Mandy. A couple of years ago she moved to New York but recently moved back to North Carolina. She is still 3 hours away but we figured out that the zoo is exactly halfway. It was great seeing her and I look forward to another zoo trip real soon!

Most of the pictures are from the dinosaur exibit they had. It was pretty neat. They had mechanical dinosaurs that the kids could walk around and look at and then a little area where they could dig for bones.

Aiden and Will have to have their maps every time we go to the zoo. They are our little navigators.
